College is expensive, and for students who have a mental illness, it may be a major source of concern. Some organizations and institutions provide scholarships for students with depression, anxiety, and other mental illnesses in an effort to lessen this source of distress. Scholarships for Students with Mental Illness

While attending college may be exhilarating for high school graduates, it may not be so exciting for someone who suffers from a mental condition. In the US, mental illness is widespread. 17% of individuals between the ages of 6 and 17 and 1 in 5 adults, according to the National Alliance on Mental Illness, suffer from mental illness. The Andrew Q. Peschard Memorial Scholarship

The Andrew Q. Peschard Memorial Scholarship is available to graduating seniors enrolled in San Mateo County high schools. The scholarship was established in honor of Andrew Q. Peschard, who showed perseverance in overcoming mental illness and tenacity in seeking a college education. Candidates must submit an essay outlining a life challenge that has affected their mental health and shaped their high school experience.

The letter of recommendation that best exemplifies the applicant’s inspirational commitment to overcome difficult life events connected to their mental health and explains why the applicant deserves this award must also be submitted with the application.

The Quell Foundation

The Quell Foundation offers 3 mental health scholarships, they are:

The Quell Foundation Survivor Scholarship is given to deserving high school seniors or current undergraduate or graduate students. They have gone through the tragic loss of a parent, caregiver, or sibling to suicide. College students with a 3.40 GPA are eligible for the prize, which offers up to $1,000.

The Quell Foundation bridge the Gap  Scholarship is given to  Graduate students or college juniors and seniors. The beneficiaries of this scholarship are pursuing degrees in psychology, social work, or other disciplines associated with offering mental health services.

The Quell Foundation Fighter Scholarship is given to a qualified high school senior or a current undergraduate or graduate student receiving treatment for a diagnosed mental health problem.

Jack Scura Fund Scholarship

The scholarship was created to honor deserving students who have a particular need and are well-regarded in both their academic setting and their communities. For the Fall, recipients of the Jack Scura Fund will each receive $5,000.

In order to be eligible for the award applicants must be incoming or existing undergraduate students at a New Jersey college or university with an intellectual disability, a severe physical handicap, or a psychiatric disability.

A 3.2 GPA or higher is needed of applicants, who must also submit documentation of their impairment, a transcript of records, two recommendation letters, a resume, and an essay of between 600 and 800 words. Describe a period in your life when you had to overcome a difficulty or setback. How has this experience shaped you into the person you are today? JED’s Student Voice of Mental Health Award

The JED’s Student Voice of Mental Health Award was established to promote understanding of mental health concerns, lessen stigma associated with mental illness, and promote peer assistance seeking. The award is open to undergraduates in any institution or college who have a mental disorder. The undergraduate student chosen for this scholarship will get the following:

A scholarship worth $3,000

Awarded recognition on the JED website and social media

travel expenses to New York to accept the prize at the JED Annual Gala

The Microsoft Disability Scholarship

Students with mental illness can apply for the Microsoft disability scholarship if they plan to major in engineering, computer science, computer information systems, law, business, or a related field.

The awardees will earn $5,000 every year for four years of education, but in order to renew the grant, they must keep a 3.0 GPA.

Depression and anxiety are examples of mental illness. The scholarships mentioned above are open to people who are depressed.

Baer Reintegration Scholarship

JC Runyon Foundation Scholarship

JC Runyon Foundation Scholarship doesn’t have any fixed amount for her awardees. Applicants  must be an undergraduate students at a college or trade school who have successfully completed a program in a mental health facility for substance misuse, psychiatric condition, or both, and been accepted into a college or trade school.

Paradigm Malibu Annual Depression Treatment Education Scholarship

Paradigm Malibu Annual Depression Treatment Education scholarship are for students who are depressed, Paradigm Malibu Annual Depression Treatment Education scholarship offers $1,000 to their beneficiaries. Essays on educational aspirations and future plans for after graduation are required of applicants.

For students with a verified learning handicap, the Incight Scholarship offers a $500 renewable prize.

Google Chromebooks and other forms of support are among the awards programs for students offered by the Learning Disorders Resource Foundation.

A community college, university, or vocational school may be chosen as the location for beneficiaries of the $2000 Shire ADHD Scholarship Program to pursue their further education.

Canadian students with learning disabilities are eligible for a $3,000 grant through the Justin Eves Foundation Scholarship.

Disability Scholarships

Scholarships for people with disabilities are widely accessible, offering financial support to students who have a physical, sensory, learning, or mental health condition. They comprise:

AAHD Theodore J. Krause Scholarship on Health and Disability: Applicants must be US nationals enrolled full-time in an accredited US university as undergraduate or graduate students.

The College Scholarship Program of the Alexander Graham Bell Association for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (AG Bell) is offered to students from within and outside of the United States.

Scholarships are available through the Baer Reintegration Scholarship program for US residents who are undergoing treatment for schizophrenia, schizoaffective disorder, or bipolar disorder.

A scholarship for a disabled US student who has been admitted to or is already enrolled in an undergraduate program in the US is available through the Flora Marie Jenkins Memorial Disability Scholarship.

Microsoft Scholarship for Disabilities

Any applicant from any nation may submit an application for the Google Lime Scholarship Program to study at any university level in Canada or the United States.

People with ADHD who are lawfully residing in Alberta, Manitoba, Nova Scotia, Ontario, or Québec may apply for the Shire Canada ADHD Scholarship Program, which will fund their studies at any authorized higher education institution in one of the aforementioned provinces.
