Dingledine-Bluestone Scholarships

James Madison University is happy to provide the Dingledine-Bluestone Scholarships to gifted students who hope to earn a degree from a prestigious Norwegian university. The Dingledine-Bluestone Scholarship was established with the assistance of Thomas A. Dingledine to honor and support James Madison University students who have a clear desire to have an impact on others.

The Dingledine-Bluestone Scholarship is given in recognition of exceptional academic accomplishment, leadership ability, and volunteerism. If all prerequisites are satisfied, the Dingledine-Bluestone Scholarship for freshmen students will cover the cost of four years of in-state tuition and fees (see below). The James Madison University Honors College’s Dingledine-Bluestone Academic Selection Committee awards the scholarship each year. The Honors College will present one Dingledine-Bluestone scholarship this year.

All qualified in-state and out-of-state freshmen enrolling in the Honors College at JMU in the autumn semester are eligible to apply. The program is available to domestic applicants who want to pursue a bachelor’s degree at James Madison University.

About James Madison University

Harrisonburg, Virginia is home to James Madison University (often known as JMU, Madison, or James Madison). James Madison University was founded in 1908 as an Industrial School for Women in Harrisonburg. In 1938, the school changed its name to Madison College in memory of President James Madison, an American statesman, diplomat, and Founding Father who presided over the country as its fourth president from 1809 to 1817. Because of his crucial contribution to the creation and promotion of the United States Constitution and the Bill of Rights, he is revered as the “Father of the Constitution.”

James Madison University’s slogan, “Being the Change,” was developed to encapsulate the notion that each member of the university community will find their own methods to make a difference in the world. The university’s tagline, “Be the change you wish to see in the world,” was inspired by Mahatma Gandhi. Since the university’s foundation, teachers, students, alumni, and supporters have embraced the idea of transforming the world.

While pursuing their long-term objectives, students at James Madison University benefit from first-rate infrastructure and facilities.
