The management of the Federal University Oye-Ekiti has asked its students to remain in their hostels on Saturday 12th of June, 2021. This was announced in reference to the talks of a students’ protest, planned to hold on June 12, 2021.
In a memorandum dated 9th June, 2021 – signed on behalf of the Ag. Registrar by the Council Affairs Officer, Mr. Samuel S. Osamoka, the varsity also advised all students to stay calm in their respective hostels to ensure “adequate security”.
The statement reads:
“The attention of the University Management has been drawn to a speculation going round the campuses on a plan protest scheduled for Saturday 12th June, 2021 by some student bodies. The University Management wishes to reiterate that the primary purpose of students’ presence in the university is for academic purpose.
“Consequently, students are hereby directed to remain calm in their respective hostels both on campus and within the University Community on Saturday 12th June, 2021 to ensure safety and adequate security for all students.”
Sequel to the approaching June 12, The Vent Republic gathered that plans for a nationwide protest is ongoing by some activist groups in the country.
Democracy day used to be held on May 29th until June 6th, 2018, when it was changed to June 12th by the President Buhari-led administration.
