Just in: FG gives condition for lifting Twitter ban

By Sunday Awosoro.

The federal government of Nigeria has stated condition for lifting the ban it placed on Twitter.

This was disclosed by the minister of foreign affairs, Geoffrey Onyeama at a meeting with some envoy. He said the operations of Twitter in Nigeria would only be restored if it will be used “responsibly”.

He however, maintained that no definite time has been slated for lifting the ban.

“The condition would be responsible use of the social media and that really has to be it.

“We are not saying that Twitter is threatening the country or any such thing; why we have taken this measure is to stop them to be used as platforms for destabilisation and facilitation of criminality or encouragement of criminalities,” he indicated.

TVR recalls that Twitter was placed under an indefinite suspension on Friday, 4th of June, 2021 by the Federal Government of Nigeria, following the deletion of President Muhammadu Buhari’s tweet.
