Four inmates who escaped from Jos Prison released by the FG

The Nigerian Correctional Service (NCS) shared photos of the inmates on Friday, July 9 in a post themed; Faces of inmates that escaped from Jos Custodial Centre.

The NCS said that the detainees escaped about 2 a.m. on July 8 and asked members of the public to call the nearest police station if they had relevant information that could lead to the fugitives’ re-arrest.

The development was confirmed by Mr Samuel Aguda, the Controller- in-Charge of the command, to newsmen on Friday in Jos.

Aguda, who said that the incident occurred in the early hours of Thursday, blamed the occurrence on incompetence on the part of members of staff on duty.

He said: “Yesterday [Thursday], at about 1 a.m., four suspects, who are awaiting trial over the kidnapping and armed robbery, escaped from our facility.

“When I came to the scene, I realised that it is either that they duplicated the key to the cell or there was serious negligence on the part of personnel on duty.

“The inmates escaped through the fence.”
