Defection: Ebonyi Governor, Dave Umahi And Deputy Wins At Appeal Court

Governor Dave Umahi of Ebonyi State got a reprieve on Friday as The Appeal Court sitting in Enugu dismissed an application by the APC Guber Candidate in the 2019 election in the State, Senator Sonni Ogbuojo seeking the courts to declare the seats of Governor Umahi and his Deputy, Dr. Kelechi Igwe vacant on account for defecting from the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

THE VENT REPUBLIC reports that an Ebonyi  State High Court had on Tuesday, February 28, 2022, struck out the same suit, awarding N500, 000 as damages against the plaintiff.

Justice A.O Belgore in his ruling, which lasted for 37 minutes, dismissed the suit for being inconsistent with the constitution and extant laws of the country.
