The Ebonyi State Governor and Chairman South-East Governors’ Forum, David Umahi, has told eligible voters in the state not to vote for the Labour Party in the forthcoming general election.

The governor said this during the inauguration of five new Commissioners and other aides on Monday in Abakaliki, the state capital. The directive is coming barely a week after the All Progressives Congress presidential primary election.

Those sworn in as commissioners are Mathias Adum, Celestine Nwali, Beatrice Eze, Christopher Uchaji, Romanus Nwasum; Mrs Mary Rita Okoro, was sworn in as Head of Service.

Umahi, who urged Ebonyi people to only vote for the APC, said, “the votes of the state only belong to the ruling APC.”

“We will not vote for Labour Party. We will only vote for APC. Our votes are for APC and not for Labour Party. Our agenda is Ebonyi agenda.

“We will vote for our presidential candidate in the person of Tinubu. We must strive to liberate Ebonyi State; Ebionyi is our agenda now.”

The Vent Republic reports that Governor Umahi was elected twice on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party in 2015 and 2019, but defected to the APC in November 2020.

Umahi got 38 votes in the APC primaries and now wants to head to the Senate after his botched presidential ambition. He will be stepping down from office next year.
