The Niger Delta Development Ambassadors has endorsed Kingsley Ogundu Chinda as the consensus candidate of the emerging “Rainbow Coalition” ahead of the 2027 governorship election in Rivers State. The group described Chinda, popularly known as OK Chinda, as a politician with the experience, legislative background, and broad political acceptance needed to drive stability, inclusive governance, and sustainable development in the state.
In a statement issued on Sunday and signed by its National President, King David Attah, the organisation also applauded Nyesom Wike, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, for promoting what it described as a more inclusive democratic culture through the coalition arrangement currently gaining traction in Rivers politics.According to the group, the Rainbow Coalition represents a strategic alliance involving different political interests and parties working together beyond traditional partisan lines for the collective progress of Rivers State.
The NDDA noted that the coalition signals a shift away from divisive politics toward a culture of consultation, accommodation, and shared responsibility.“The Rainbow Coalition represents a significant shift from politics driven solely by rivalry and exclusion to a broader culture of accommodation, consultation, and collective responsibility,” the statement said. The group further commended Wike for creating an environment where political actors with different interests can collaborate in pursuit of peace, stability, and development.Speaking on Chinda’s endorsement, the organisation said the lawmaker representing Obio/Akpor Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives has built strong political relationships across different blocs in Rivers politics.
According to the group, Chinda’s experience in the National Assembly and his understanding of governance and public administration make him a credible figure capable of maintaining political balance within the coalition framework. The organisation stressed that Rivers State needs a leader capable of uniting competing political interests while focusing on infrastructure, economic growth, youth empowerment, and security.“Rt. Hon. Kingsley Chinda has demonstrated capacity, political maturity, and the ability to engage across divides. At this critical point in Rivers politics, the state requires consensus builders rather than politicians driven by bitterness and endless conflict,” Attah stated.
The NDDA also praised the conduct of the APC governorship primaries in Rivers State, describing the exercise as peaceful, orderly, and reflective of growing democratic maturity among political stakeholders.According to the group, the calm atmosphere surrounding the primaries contrasts with the tensions and instability that have often characterised political contests in the state. The organisation urged political leaders across party lines to sustain the spirit of cooperation and restraint as political alignments ahead of the 2027 elections continue to unfold. It also called on youths and community leaders in Rivers State to support initiatives that promote peace, political inclusion, and long-term stability in the state ahead of the next electoral cycle.
