Nigeria’s Vice President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo has debunked rumours that he has informed President Muhammadu Buhari about his Intention to contest for President in 2023 election.
THE VENT REPUBLIC reports that Osinbajo’s media aide, Laolu Akande in a WhatsApp message sent to AIT Correspondent, Yemi Adebayo on Monday averred that the various reports of the VP notifying Buhari of his interest is not factual. It would be recalled that some online news medium had reported that the Vice President had informed the President of his intention to throw his hat into the ring as it relates to the Presidential race.
The news medium claimed that credible sources close to the VP confirmed that Osinbajo told the president of his desire to take over from him at the expiration of his tenure in 2023 to consolidate the achievements they recorded since they took over from the opposition PDP in 2015.
The rumor that Osinbajo would contest gained traction earlier in the year when it was alleged that he would formally declare his intention after the APC convention but Laolu Akande refuted the claim, saying anything concerning the Vice-President on the subject matter must emanate from him first.
