How Oyo Estate Inhabitants Were Robbed Using POS Machine

The Alaafia Estate of the Orogun area of Ibadan, Oyo State, was invaded by armed robbers who dispossessed the residents of their money and other valuables.

TVR Correspondent gathered that the hoodlums transferred money from the accounts of some residents, who did not have cash using a Point of Sale machine.
Due to network failure, they could not transfer money from their victims’ accounts so they collected the Personal Identification Numbers and went away with the ATM cards of some residents.

The robbers had stormed the estate about two weeks before the Sunday operation, it was gathered that about 25 families were robbed during the Sunday attack.

The armed robbers were said to have angrily destroyed properties of occupants who were accused of peeping to see the way they operated.

The police were eventually alerted and their arrival stopped the robbery, as the hoodlums took to their heels.

Mr Adewale Osifeso, the state Police Public Relations Officer, said that the police received a distress call around 3am and some of its men were immediately deployed to the scene.

According to him, “The hoodlums, on sighting the policemen, fled the scene after they were thoroughly resisted. A pistol was recovered in the process, along with three cutlasses and a bag containing both male undergarments and SIM cards.”

Mr Adewale Osifeso said that efforts were on to apprehend the hoodlums.
TVR Correspondent advises everyone to remain alert and security conscious.
