The last may not have been heard in the seemingly grass to grace story of Mary Daniels, the one-legged hawker who many Nigerians rallied round to change her story,

Information reaching THE VENT REPUBLIC indicates that there may be some inconsistencies in the stories the public has been made to believe about her.

Mary Daniels had claimed that she lost her leg in an accident that claimed the life of her parents and all the passengers onboard when she was a teenager. According to her, that made her an orphan with a baby and an aged grandmother to cater for.

She also narrated how she dropped out of school and she had to hustle on the streets to make ends meet.

The claim by Mary drew sympathy on social media with kind-hearted Nigerians rising up, donating at least 25 million Naira in the process to an account number she dropped.

The Lagos State Government, taking cognizance of her story, took over her case and immediately provided shelter for her in a bid to protect her from those with nefarious intentions.

But alas!, in the process of documentation and claim investigation, some holes were picked in her stories.

The state government reportedly discovered her claim of having an autocrash that led to her amputation was false as she was amputated from birth. The claim of being an orphan has been found to be a lie, as her father was alive.

The State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, having discovered the discrepancies, handed her to officials of the social welfare for further investigation as reports indicated her story was staged. She was handed over to officials of welfare in the presence of the police and some elders from her state of origin, Kogi who confirmed that her father was indeed alive.

According to reports, Mary was seen receiving nocturnal calls from some persons who vowed to leak her secret if she fails to give them their share of the money realized.

Lagos State Police Commissioner, Hakeem Odumosu, while confirming the latest development said Mary is in the custody of the Social Welfare officials

In his words:

“The police were there but she was not handed over to us. She was handed over to the Social Welfare. There were irregularities and lies in the account of her life she gave.

“It was discovered that contrary to her claim that her parents died during an accident that left her amputated, it was discovered that her father is very much alive and that she was amputated from birth.

“It was also discovered that her presence in Oshodi was staged. Those working with her played on the intelligence of Nigerians to get donations for her.

” It came to light when the people started threatening her. She promised some N500,000 others different amounts and was planning to return to her home state when the information leaked.

“I had to attach some policemen to her to prevent any attack on her when she went to the bank. We suspected those people might follow her but everything went well as they were not seen.

“Presently, the state government is preventing her from accessing the money.

“The government does not want a situation where it will become a trend for people to cook up stories, manipulate the people to get donations,” Odumosu explained.
