The World Health Organization (WHO) has declared the Ebola outbreak linked to the Bundibugyo virus in the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Uganda a Public Health Emergency of International Concern.
As of May 16:
▪️ 8 confirmed Ebola cases
▪️ 246 suspected cases
▪️ 80 suspected deaths
▪️ Confirmed cases recorded in both DRC and UgandaEbola spreads through direct contact with the bodily fluids of infected individuals or contaminated surfaces.
Common symptoms include: Fever▪️ Weakness▪️ Headache▪️ Vomiting and diarrhea▪️ In severe cases, bleedingHealth workers have also been infected, increasing concerns about transmission within healthcare facilities.Health experts say early detection, prompt isolation, supportive treatment, and strong public health measures are critical to containing the outbreak and saving lives.
WHO and its partners are currently supporting affected countries by strengthening surveillance, testing, treatment, and emergency response efforts.The public is urged to stay informed, avoid spreading misinformation, and support affected communities with compassion rather than fear.
