President Bola Tinubu has congratulated Ekiti State Governor, Biodun Oyebanji, on his victory in Saturday’s governorship election, describing the outcome as a strong endorsement of the governor’s leadership and achievements.In a statement released on Sunday by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the President commended the people of Ekiti State for conducting themselves peacefully during the election and for renewing their confidence in Governor Oyebanji.
Tinubu also praised security agencies for ensuring a peaceful and orderly electoral process, while urging the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to build on the success of the election and continue improving the conduct of future polls, including the upcoming Osun governorship election and the 2027 general elections.According to the President, Oyebanji’s re-election is historic, making him the first governor in Ekiti State to secure back-to-back electoral victories.
He attributed the achievement to the governor’s performance during his first term, particularly in the areas of infrastructure development, agriculture, youth empowerment, education, healthcare, and rural development under the BAO agenda.Tinubu noted that the renewed mandate reflects the people’s confidence in continuity, stability, and people-focused governance. He urged the governor to remain inclusive in his leadership and to extend a hand of fellowship to all stakeholders as he begins a new term in office.The President also acknowledged the efforts of other candidates who participated in the election and called on them to work with the governor for the progress and development of Ekiti State.
INEC had earlier declared Oyebanji, the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), winner of the election after polling 319,224 votes. He defeated the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Olumayokun Oluyede, and the African Democratic Congress (ADC) candidate, Dare Bejide.Reaffirming the Federal Government’s commitment to supporting Ekiti State, Tinubu pledged continued collaboration with the state government in delivering the dividends of democracy under the Renewed Hope Agenda.The President also prayed for wisdom, strength, and good health for Governor Oyebanji as he continues to serve the people of Ekiti State.
