Tragedy struck in Evbuotubu, Benin city, Edo State as a teenager reportedly ended the sojourn of his father on earth.

13-year-old Abubakar Oronsaye was alleged to have murdered his father, 79-year-old Osariakhi Oronsaye.

The Edo State Police Command has said it will rely on the advice of the Director of Public Prosecutions in the state as they continue to investigate into the case.

The incident happened on Sunday, at Egbon Estate in Evbuotubu, Benin city.

The command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Kontongs Bello has revealed that the status of the alleged offender as a minor made it imperative for the command to liaise with the DPP, adding also that everything would be done to unravel the case.

He said, “I can confirm to you that the command is discussing with the DPP over the case. It is an unfortunate case, but we are also conducting our investigation to ensure that we unravel the case.

“The suspect is a minor; so, we must be sure of what we are doing on this case.”

TVR Correspondent gathered that Osariakhi had reported his son to the Evbuotubu Police Station a week ago, but pleaded with the police to leave the boy alone.

The 13-year-old boy carried out his threat as he allegedly stabbed his father to death in his sleep using an axe in the early hours of Sunday.
Some members of the family have described this incident as tragic.

A family member said, “We have not known Abubakar to have a mental problem, but we are shocked by his action.”
