Saraki may bounce back in Kwara – Awoyale

Gbenga Awoyale, the President-General of Orisun Igbomina, a socio-cultural association for Igbomina people, has cautioned supporters of the Kwara State chapter of the ruling All Progressives Congress, to close ranks to prevent a return of the Bukola Saraki-led era in the State.

Awoyale said in a statement in Ilorin, on Sunday.

The statement read in part: ‘A key fact about our political party system is that everything centres on votes. If voters do not show up to vote for our candidates on Election Day what becomes of us? And it is only when there is party unity that we can talk about necessary things that should be done to outrun the opposition.

“We tried for years before eventually ousting Saraki, if we are busy fighting each other he may return whilst we allow ourselves to get distracted.’

Bukola Saraki got his first political appointment as the Special Adviser on Budget to the former President Olusegun Obasanjo in 2000. He later became the Governor of Kwara State in 2003 and was re-elected for a second term in 2007. He later got elected as the Senator representing Kwara Central in 2011 and became the Senate President in 2015. He contested for the PDP Presidential primaries of 2019 and lost to Atiku Abubakar. An attempt to return to the Senate was prevented as he was defeated in the ‘Otoge’ movement that swept the PDP away from the state.

His next political moves still remain unknown to pundits.
