Kwara State University has announced plans to discontinue its Higher National Diploma (HND) conversion, also known as the top-up programme, beginning from the 2025/2026 academic session. The university disclosed that the decision follows directives from the National Universities Commission as part of an ongoing review of non-traditional degree pathways within Nigeria’s university system.According to the institution, the HND conversion programme will stop admitting new students after the current admission cycle. The programme has over the years provided an opportunity for Higher National Diploma holders to upgrade their qualifications to Bachelor’s degrees.Despite the development, the university assured that students currently enrolled in the programme will not experience any disruption to their studies. It added that necessary guidelines and academic arrangements would be put in place to ensure affected students complete their programmes successfully. The announcement is expected to impact many prospective applicants who have depended on the scheme as a pathway to strengthen their academic qualifications and improve career opportunities. For several years, the HND top-up programme has remained a popular option for polytechnic graduates seeking university degree certifications.
