The African Energy Chamber has warned it may boycott an upcoming Africa focused energy summit in London over concerns about inadequate African representation.
The event, organised by Frontier Energy Network and scheduled for May 12 to May 14, has come under criticism from the Chamber, which says its leadership structure does not sufficiently include Black African professionals despite focusing on the continent’s energy future.
Executive Chairman NJ Ayuk said the group would not accept exclusion from discussions that directly affect Africa’s oil and gas sector.
He stressed that platforms claiming to represent Africa must reflect that commitment through inclusive participation, hiring, and leadership.

The Chamber argued that local content in the energy industry should go beyond rhetoric and translate into real opportunities for African professionals.
It pointed to companies operating within the continent that have successfully prioritised local talent as examples of what the industry should emulate.
According to the group, African experts and institutions have played a significant role in shaping the continent’s energy landscape through policy advocacy, investment support, and sector development.
It said these contributions must be matched by stronger representation at global conferences and decision making platforms.
The Chamber added that improving inclusion is essential for credibility and fairness in conversations about Africa’s energy future, warning that failure to address the issue could undermine trust in such international engagements.
It also reaffirmed its commitment to engaging stakeholders across the sector, calling for sustained investment in local capacity and policies that empower African professionals to take leading roles in shaping the industry.
