Saudi Arabia has recorded its first civilian casualties since the outbreak of the war involving Iran, with a military projectile striking a residential area and killing two people ,an Indian citizen and a Bangladeshi national.
Twelve other Bangladeshis were injured, according to a Saudi government statement issued Sunday evening.
The development comes amid rising regional tensions following a nine-day conflict in which hundreds of Iranian missiles and drones targeted Gulf states and other regional sites.
On Sunday, Iran indicated that Mojtaba Khamenei, son of the late Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, had been chosen as his successor.
Arab League chief Ahmed Abouel Gheit criticised Iran for a “reckless policy” of attacking Arab nations during a diplomatic meeting, while Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian warned that military pressure would only strengthen Iran’s response.
“Our country will not bow easily to bullying, oppression or aggression,” he said.The conflict has seen multiple strikes across the region.
Israel conducted air raids in southern Lebanon, Beirut, and Tehran, targeting oil storage facilities, with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu promising “many surprises” in the next phase.
Iran reportedly hit a desalination plant in Bahrain, and Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi accused the U.S. of previously striking an Iranian desalination facility on Qeshm Island, citing it as a precedent.
Desalination plants remain critical sources of drinking water in the Gulf, making the attacks a significant concern for regional stability.
