A group within the All Progressives Congress, the Progressive Consolidation Group has launched an advocacy to drum up support for Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo, to contest the 2023 presidential election.

The National Chairman of the PCG, Alhaji Aliyu Kurfi, stated this while addressing journalists in Abuja on Sunday.

He was flanked by the group’s National Secretary, Dr. Eberechukwu Dibia, the PCG’s Co-ordinator in the South-West, Olufemi Lawson.

Kurfi said the group had paid courtesy visits to the Governor of Katsina State, Alhaji Aminu Bello Masari, the Emir of Daura Emirate, Alhaji Umar Faruk on the issue.

He also said his team had held strategic  meetings with APC members from all the 34 local government areas in Katsina State, on how to  succeed with the project.

Kurfi said: “Every passing day, we see further indications of success in our mobilisation and advocacy efforts towards ensuring that Vice President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo succeeds President Muhammadu Buhari and sustains our party’s progressive ideals.

“We deeply appreciate the warmth and hospitality offered by the people and government of Katsina State during our visit to Government House, Katsina last Friday as well as our visit to His Royal Majesty, the Emir of Daura, Alhaji Faruk Umar Faruk last Saturday.”

There has been subtle pressure on Yemi Osinbajo to throw his hat in the ring but he has denied any interest in the nation’s top job arguing that he still has a job to do for which he was elected.

Time will tell if he will join the presidential race.
