Russia’s ambassador to the United Kingdom, Andrey Kelin, has confirmed that Moscow is “not neutral” in the ongoing US and Israeli conflict with Iran, asserting that Russia supports the hardline Tehran regime
.Speaking on Sky News’s Sunday Morning with Trevor Phillips, Kelin said, “We are not neutral. No way neutral. We are supportive to Iran, of course. And we consider very negatively what is being done.”
The comments come amid reports that an Iranian drone that struck RAF Akrotiri in Cyprus on Sunday was equipped with Russian military technology.
The drone, reportedly fired from Lebanon, is believed to have carried a Russian-made Kometa-B navigation system, previously seen in drones intercepted by Ukrainian forces in December.
When asked whether Russia would provide material assistance to Iran, Kelin said, “We have all sympathies with Iran. They are our neighbours. We have always had a very good relationship with Iran. But for the moment, Iran didn’t ask for any assistance or help.”
