Empowering Lagos state residents through MESI tools
Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Lagos State Governor, distributed working tools to 3,792 graduates of the state’s vocational skills training centers. This effort supports Lagos state entrepreneurship, reduces poverty, and improves livelihoods across the state.
The empowerment exercise was held on Tuesday at the Blue Roof, Agidingbi, Ikeja. It was organized by the Lagos State Ministry of Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation (WAPA) under the Micro Enterprise Support Initiative (MESI).
Speaking at the event, Sanwo-Olu described the program as a clear demonstration of his administration’s commitment to opportunities. It also aims to encourage self-reliance and lift more residents out of poverty.
According to the governor, government success goes beyond infrastructure or growth. It should be measured by how many lives it touches and how many people it empowers.
He disclosed that nearly 40,000 Lagos residents have been empowered with start-up tools. Over the past seven years, these tools enabled many to start or grow their businesses.
Sanwo-Olu urged the beneficiaries to make productive use of the equipment by building successful enterprises and creating employment opportunities for others.
