The Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, has stated that Nigeria’s economy is now expanding at a pace faster than the country’s population growth, describing the development as a positive indicator of improving economic performance.
Sanusi made the remark while speaking on the country’s economic outlook, noting that sustained economic growth above the population growth rate is essential for raising living standards and improving citizens’ welfare.
According to the former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), achieving stronger economic growth creates opportunities for higher incomes, increased investment, and broader economic development. He stressed that maintaining sound economic policies and structural reforms remains critical to sustaining the current momentum.
The respected economist also emphasized the need for continued efforts to tackle inflation, boost productivity, attract investment, and create jobs to ensure that the benefits of economic growth are felt by Nigerians across all sectors.
His comments come amid ongoing discussions over Nigeria’s economic reforms and the government’s efforts to stabilize the economy, strengthen the naira, and promote inclusive growth.
Sanusi’s assessment has sparked fresh conversations among policymakers, economists, and the public about the country’s economic direction and whether the current growth trajectory can translate into meaningful improvements in the lives of ordinary Nigerians.
