OSOGBO — The Osun State chapter of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) has formally adopted the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the August 15, 2026, governorship election in the state.
The decision was conveyed in a letter dated July 27, 2026, and addressed to the APC State Chairman, Alhaji Tajudeen Lawal.
According to the letter, the resolution was reached at the SDP Southwest Zonal Meeting held in Ibadan, Oyo State, and subsequently endorsed by the party’s national leadership.
The letter, signed by the SDP State Chairman, Hon. Apostle G. Remi Omidire, said the decision followed “extensive consultations and careful consideration of the political realities and the overriding interest of the people of Osun State.”
The party stated that it had unanimously resolved to support the APC governorship candidate in the forthcoming election scheduled for August 15.
The SDP also requested an official meeting with the APC leadership in Osun State to agree on the modalities and processes for formally announcing the adoption at an APC Mega Rally or another event to be determined by the APC.
The party further stated that its leadership in Osun had been affirmed by a competent court, noting that a Certified True Copy of the relevant judgment was attached to the letter.
Describing the decision as a strategic political move, the SDP said the collaboration would strengthen progressive politics in Osun State and promote the collective aspirations of the people for good governance, sustainable development and prosperity.
The SDP’s endorsement comes less than three weeks before the governorship election and is expected to strengthen the APC’s political structure and grassroots mobilisation across the state.
