The University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN) has announced that 12,895 graduates will be awarded degrees and diplomas during its landmark 55th Convocation Ceremony, with an impressive 168 students graduating with First Class honours.
Vice-Chancellor of the University, Prof. Simon Uchenna Ortuanya made the announcement on Wednesday during a press briefing ahead of the week-long convocation activities.
According to the Vice-Chancellor:
-🎓 10,641 students will receive first degrees and diplomas.
-🎓 2,944 will earn postgraduate qualifications, including:
-1,390 PhD degrees
-1,340 Master’s degrees
-214 Postgraduate Diplomas
The university will also confer Honorary Doctorate Degrees on:
-Senator Oluremi Tinubu, First Lady of Nigeria
-High Chief Williams Agbo
-Arc. Dr. Kaycee Kelechi Orji
-Dr. William Franklyn Richardson
In recognition of outstanding academic contributions, Prof. Peter-Jazzy Ezeh and Prof. Boniface Obinna Okere will receive the prestigious title of Professor Emeritus.
The Convocation Lecture, scheduled for Thursday, July 23, will be delivered by Enugu State Governor, Dr. Peter Mbah, while Prof. Ositadinma Nebo, former UNN Vice-Chancellor and current Vice-Chancellor of the University on the Niger, will chair the event.
Prof. Ortuanya also highlighted major milestones achieved under his administration since assuming office in August 2025, including a significant increase in UNN’s admission quota after accreditation:
📈 Medicine: 180 → 400
📈 Dentistry: 15 → 60
