The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Abuja Zonal Directorate, has arraigned a Chinese national, Zhang Wen Hao, before Justice Ibrahim Shekarau of the Nasarawa State High Court sitting in Mararaba.
He faces a one-count charge of cheating. The charge alleges that in March 2023, at Suleja, Zhang Wen Hao intentionally induced Paul Yichol with ₦1,000 to open a bank account in his name, which was allegedly intended for unlawful activity.
The offence is said to contravene Section 320 of the Penal Code Law of Northern Nigeria and is punishable under Section 322 of the same law.
Zhang pleaded not guilty, prompting the prosecution, represented by Taiwo Aromolaran, to request a trial date.Meanwhile, Zhang’s counsel, Michael Ukatu, made an oral application for bail.
Justice Shekarau remanded the defendant in EFCC custody and adjourned the matter to March 12, 2026, for hearing of the bail application.
